John Mayer Concert

I took my daughters and my oldest daughter’s friend and her mother to the John Mayer concert on Sunday, September the 5th. I only have one word to describe it: AWESOME!

We had a total blast! The girls decided to make t-shirts for the concert. My youngest daughter painted “John is in the House” on her shirt. The two older girls put “Peace, Love & Mayer” on theirs. My oldest daughter showed me hers and she misspelled Mayer. She put Meyer! We cracked up like crazy! Then her friend showed us her shirt and she too misspelled Mayer! She put Mayor! They wore them anyway, fools! We told them they were going to have to walk around with signs that said “Public Education!”

Owl City opened up for John Mayer and I was not too impressed with them. All of their music sounded the same in my opinion.

I was on my feet all night long! He played a ton of awesome guitar and the rest of his band was just as great. The best part was that the people really got into the concert. We all had fun!

Next weekend we have Jonas Brothers with Demi Lovato and Camp Rock!

A Little Bit Of Everything

This post is going to be about a little bit of everything going on right now. Now, where to start, where to start?

High School = High Money

My oldest daughter is a Senior at or local public high school. She started back to school on August 23rd. She is taking English, Math, Government, Forensics (Science), P.E., Choir, and her Veterinary Technician class. I do not have a problem with a few fees here and there but this year has been the worse I have ever seen. I feel like I am being nickeled and dimed to death! I totally understand the Vet Tech class is a special program and has special fees but something has to give here! This is what I have shelled out to our local high school so far:

  • $25 General Vet Tech Fee (includes FFA membership)
  • $23 Scrubs for Vet Tech
  • $20 P.E. Gym Clothes
  • $20 General Choir Fee
  • Total out of Pocket so far: $88
  • $65 CVA (Certified Vet. Asst.) Test Fee due Oct 1
  • $47 SAT Test for College due in Nov.
  • $48 ACT Test for College due in Nov.
  • Total Upcoming Fees: $160

Grand total for Fees: $248!!! This does not even count for regular school supplies and classroom supplies! Don’t even mention Homecoming, Senior Pictures, Senior Cap & Gown, Yearbook, or Prom to me right now!!!

Concerts

Every summer we try to go to at least one concert. Last year due to financial reasons we did not get to do this. This year I am making up for it! When we go to concerts we choose ones that are at an outdoor arena called the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. We bring a big blanket and sit in the Lawn Area. It’s a great experience!

This weekend I am going to see John Mayer in concert with Owl City as the opening act. This concert started out as just a mother/oldest daughter concert. Then a few weeks ago when I kicked oldest daughter out of the house I offered to take the lady she stayed with as well as her daughter to the concert for all of their trouble. Then my youngest daughter piped up and wanted to go as well! So now our mother/daughter adventure has turned into a bit of a party! I am looking forward to this concert so much!

The following weekend I am taking my daughters and my youngest daughter’s friend to go see the Jonas Brothers with Demi Lovato/Camp Rock in concert. I am actually looking forward to this concert as well. I am getting a total kick out of the excitement my youngest daughter and her friend have! I am dragging my oldest daughter along as payback for the hell she has put me through in the past few weeks!

More Work Changes

Yesterday the owner of the company I work for called me into her office and asked me if I would be willing to work 2 more days a week. She would like to train me on some of her work so that she can semi-retire. I jumped at the opportunity! This puts me at 5 days a week at about 30 hours. I will still get off work in time to pick up my youngest daughter from school which is awesome!

This also puts me at a comfort level with my home-life issues. I am now in a position to make it on my own if I have to. The weight this lifts off my shoulders is immense! I now have the power!!!!!

Old Time Rock And Roll

Bruce Springsteen Concert - Houston, TX 4-8-09

Bruce Springsteen Concert - Houston, TX 4-8-09

Last week I was lucky enough to go see Bruce Springsteen in concert! Let me tell you the guy is just plain awesome as is the rest of his band. They played 25 songs in 2 hours and 40 minutes!

Remember when you were a kid and all you heard was “You’re not old enough!”? Well, I realized the other night that sometimes you are just getting too old for certain things and going to concerts is one of them!

You might be getting too old to go to concerts if:

  • You spend more time in the bathroom instead of the beer line.
  • You hear a young person comment on how he remembers hearing this song on the Classic Rock station.
  • The person sitting next to you takes out his hearing aids.
  • You see a guy leaving the concert by an Ambulance Stretcher, not a Stretch Limo!

Go Jump In A Lake…OK!

Here we go, I think this is going to be the busiest weekend of the summer!

Tomorrow night we are going to see Bryan Adams and Foreigner in concert. It is an outdoor concert and yes we are taking the kids. They love going to concerts with us, so we let them when the price is right. These tickets were $10 each but you have to sit on the lawn which is what we prefer to do anyway. Last year we took both girls to see Steve Miller. We also took the older one to go see Rush this one was a bit expensive but she really wanted to go. This concert should be great!

Saturday we get to celebrate my youngest daughter’s birthday. She will be officially 9 even though her dad thought she was turning 10! She will have three of her friends over  to our neighborhood pool for a party. Simple but fun, they can swim, eat pizza have cake and the best part is nobody gets to mess up my house!

Sunday is the day I can’t wait to get here. We are packing up the car and heading out for 4 days of camping. We rent a cabin at a lake every summer to just get away from it all. The best part is we have a no electronics rule for everyone. No cell phones, radios, tv, computers, gameboys, nothing!

So come Sunday I am going to say the hell with it all and go jump in a lake!

Put On Your Dancing Shoes!

Last night my husband and I actually left the kids alone for the night. We went to the Bruce Springsteen concert and had a blast! The show was scheduled to start at 7:30 which everyone knows never happens. At 8 o’clock the stage crew came out and removed the current set lists from the floor and taped down a new one and at 8:30 they came out and started playing. They played 26 songs for us and they were just great as usual! Great to see those old guys up and rocking!

The audience was pretty lame, at least where we were sitting. Up in the nose bleed seats, which we payed $95 plus per seat, everybody was sitting on their butts! I know the crowd is getting a little old and being a Monday night stinks. But come on, get up and dance! We were actually told by an usher that we were bothering people by dancing. If you want to sit and listen that is cool with me, but I paid to go see a concert. At concerts I dance, scream, and sing. If you want to sit and be quiet then go to the Symphony!

*Today my kids will see how mom is on only 4 hours of sleep. Actually, I should really just call it a nap! Please pray for them!
